Buttons

When creating period clothing you will want to finish them off with period closures. Knowing how to make frogs (or as they were called in the 1500s “frogglings”) or period looking buttons can be important, For example an Elizabethan Man’s Doublet can have 25 buttons, that can get expensive so, if you like handwork you can save money and end up with a much more period looking costume. Frogs or decorative cord decoration were often used with buttons and in that case the button was decorative and the frog was the functional closure.
