The pictures in B&W are from Janet Arnold’s Pattern of Fashion C1560-1620 and show similar buttons. (plates # 302, 308, 321, 323 & 324). The upper right shows a similar type of button you can make with these instructions. For each button you will need a small wooden core (~1/2″ miniature apple pre-drilled with a small hole), a 1/2″ eye screw, small circle of a thin fabric and some metallic thread or thin cord (you can of course use non-metallic thread .

The buttons pictured are in upper left a orange silk covered bead sewn with two strands of metallic sewing thread and on the right three buttons covered with black fabric and sewn with a three strand gold cord.
