I just added a rewrite of my article on how to make a Flared Top Hat with a buckram base and not over a wooden block (puzzle block). It includes a pdf of the making of this copy of the Mad Hatter’s hat from the Disney movie.

I just added my How-to make period hairdos for display heads.

I just added two videos that show how to take a modern straw sunhat a part and then how to prepare, block and size it into an 18th century sunhat, a Bergère.

Would you like to see a new edition of my Late Victorian Tall Hat that adds instructions on how to make a straw tall hat over a block made from the pattern? The existing pattern has instructions for fabric over buckram and straw plait over buckram but not how to take a sun hat and block one. The crown block would be make from cardboard and the brim block from styrofoam. Comment below……

In 2024 we acquired a collection of hat ornaments from the second half of the 1800s to the early 1900s. This 6 page set of instructions has bead counts, Wire lengths and full instructions for two reproduction ornaments and one I developed from the techniques I discovered from studying the antique examples.
