Brisé fans are unlike fans with leaves every rib is unconnected with the others so it need a string or ribbon to control just how much it can open and keep all the ribs in order. Below are two examples of Brisé fans. The one on the left has a controlling string that you can’t see and the one on the right has a ribbon that is woven back and forth thru holes in the sections.
