How to create a simple Elizabethan hairstyle with medium length hair. For use with a French hood, a caul or escoffion. Model by Sara Decker.
As always start with a spray of hairspray. It helps with styling slippery hair.
Use a comb to create a center part.
Divide the hair on both sides at the ear line up from the back hair. Clip it, to keep it separate.
Sara is using one of those circular haircombs. They help if you have short hairs in the back to keep them from falling.
Draw the remaining hair into a French twist or pony tail or bar clip. Twist it into a bun and pin it down with large hairpins
With the right side hair smoothed and held straight out twist the bundle clockwise. When the twist reaches your scalp draw it back and pin it to the side of your bun. Repeat with the hair on the left side but this time twist counter clockwise.
Always a crisscross of bobby pins works best.
Pin your caul or escoffion in place the cover the bun.
Then you hat.
Make sure it is secure.
How it looks from the back
This is how it looks with a tall hat.
Surprisingly similar to my Victorian hairstyle!
