Dividing the hair into 4 sections, first a center part then down just behind the ears. They are clipped out of the way. Then the back into two sections left and right.I bound each half with a rubber band very high on her head. First one side then the other. Then to comb out and twist the side front sections and bring the hair up near the two back sections. These get pinned with standard bobby pins.I used two bobby pins for each side. This is just after I pinned the second side twist just in front of the two rubber bands.I then decided the hair in half and created a twist. The twist is bound with a ribber band. Then twisted around to create a chignon. The chignon is pinned down with large hair pins. I bend them open wider than they come. Then pinch the ends parallel and slide them into the base of the chignon. Because once in they will open back up they should stay in better.Once it’s pinned it is ready for the added hair.I used the loop or two switched to add a large bobby pin which I slipped into the base of the existing chignon. The pin holding the switches runs parallel to the floor. I added two other small bobby pins at 90° to each other to secure the long bobby pin. I then made a twist out of the two switches and rubber banded the end.I wrapped the twist around the outside of the existing chignon.I added many hairpins each near the base of each twist in the chignon. I added a hairnet over the chignon twisting the extra net and tucking it in under the chignon.I pin in some tight curls that were made on a hairpin. We tried on a pink tall hat.The pink hat from the back. Then the natural colored straw hat.The straw from the back.I showed how to add some small curls at the base of Diana hair.I used a 3/8″ bore curling iron and silicon gloves on my free hand.I rolled as close as possible without touching her head. While the iron curled the hairs I used my gloved fingers to keep the iron off her head. This is how the iron curled her hair. She had three. Diana had some shortish sausage curls on bobby pins so I added them to make a simple evening look. Some of my favorite tools. Retail comb Hair pins larger size, Large clips small and large bobby pins. This is the hair spray I used before I started and as needed to smooth things down. This is a dry shampoo which can be used on synthetic hair to knock down the shine.
Thanks to Deborah Borlase for taking the pictures and Diana R. for being my hair model.
