This pattern has several different projects using the “double X knot” I first saw it in a Leonardo da Vinci painting of Beatrice d’Este. It is a double strand grid with Xs at the intersections. I worked out how to do the cording to create the mesh and then created other gold mesh items to use it on; Skull caps, Juliet caps, bun covers, the center of a Medieval hat and the original Italian Reta.
A good quality of Gold cord is important for these projects. I sell 2 mm gold cord for making the Double “X” knot cauls, etc and the gold mesh cauls for the French Hood. Make sure to add the number of yards you need in the correct field in the cart before you complete your order. For US customers only because the cost of shipping the cord is already in the price.
